During the 5/22/25 Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners meeting, Seattle Parks and Recreation provided updates on various ongoing events and projects. The Seattle Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners held a meeting covering various topics, including public comments on Discovery Park, updates on summer programs and initiatives, and presentations on affordable housing projects. The Seattle Parks Foundation provided an overview of their mission, projects, and advocacy efforts. The board also discussed potential changes to meeting start times and reviewed the department’s annual report for 2024, highlighting progress in implementing Cycle 2 initiatives.
The Seattle Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners is a volunteer advisory board established by ordinance. The Board consults with and makes recommendations to the City Council, the Mayor, and the Superintendent regarding Seattle Parks and Recreation's policies for the planning, development and use of the City's park and recreation facilities. And, provides oversight of the projects, programs, and services undertaken jointly by the City and the Seattle Park District, pursuant to the interlocal agreement between The City of Seattle and the Seattle Park District.
